His Story

Lu Sheng Dong, as named by his caregivers at the Lu Jiang County Social Welfare Institute, An Hui Province, was found in front of a temple in the Sheng Qiao township on January 1, 2004.  Left with him were two outfits, some diapers and formula and a few yuan (Chinese currency).  Based on his weight, his estimated age was 10 days old.  The orphanage gave him a birth date of 20 December 2003. An advertisement was placed in the local paper looking for his parents, however, no one came for him. The institute became his legal guardian. On March 5, 2004, Lu Sheng Dong was taken to the hospital for the treatment of a cold. Upon examination, doctors found that he had a serious congenital heart problem due to a missing/damaged inner valve cushion.  He was treated for pneumonia. Lu Sheng Dong was quarantined and in two weeks recovered from his pneumonia and was discharged. His heart symptoms also gradually improved.

On occasion, Lu Sheng Dong's face and limbs turned purple. After playing for a while, he sometimes couldn't catch his breath. This condition was caused by his heart disease. When this occurred, the caregivers would lie him down and he would recover.

Under the staff's meticulous care, Lu Sheng Dong continued to improve. His cheeks showed better color and his eyes were very energetic. When he played, he smiled back. Sometimes he got so happy that he would wave his arms and legs, showing no sign of any disease.
Lu Sheng Dong was a healthy eater. He drank milk, supplemented by special rice noodles, honey and fish oil to help him grow stronger. He became even more active and lovely. He could grab things with both hands and put them into his mouth. He liked to “eat” his little hands. He giggled when playing, liked colorful things and attempted to communicate by making “ai-yo” sounds.  He recognized familiar faces and slept very soundly. He liked to smile and had a quick reflection.

We prayed for continued improvements in Lu Sheng Dong's health until we were able to bring him home. Excellent medical care was waiting for him at Shand's Children's Hospital. Whatever he needed, we were willing to provide.

Unfortunately, we never got the chance to hold Lu Sheng. Just five days after accepting him into our hearts, we learned that he had passed away in his sleep. His little body is now completely healed and he is in the comfort of our Almighty God.

The urgency for these precious children to come home cannot be over emphasized. Please help us support international adoptions by
